INFORMATION

Growing up in Malta (just south of Italy) football (soccer) was an integral part of our daily lives, running around almost every day with a ball at our feet from a very young age. Every weekend during the season we went to the stadium to support the home town team and watched Italian and English league games on tv. As a child I learned the game from playing with older kids and by observing adult players, until at the age of 16 was recruited to play on the reserve team of my town's semi-pro club. The following season I made the first team debut and continued there for the next 11 seasons. As I approached the final playing years at the club I started mentoring the young players on the reserve team, and that developed an interest in coaching.

 

When I came to the US I started coaching my son's team, followed by Broomfield HS where I coached the JV girls team for one season. That lead to assistant coach for Peak to Peak boys and girls, Skyview boys head coach and ultimately Centaurus girls in 2010. I hold the USSF National "B" license, but find learning the intricacies of the beautiful game a continuously fascinating journey.

My coaching philosophy is to identify the strengths of the players on the team and adopt the style of play accordingly. I am a strong advocate of teamwork and respect; even more so for the high school age player. Lessons learned as a team member are hard to replicate in a classroom, and these experiences can form an important part of a young adult's maturity process. For that reason I feel a responsibility to create an environment that provides guidance but at the same time allows room for self expression and opportunities for growth and leadership by the student-athletes. My measure of success for the team is centered around effort and commitment. Ultimately wins and losses will be forgotten, but if the team shows respect to self, others and the game - we will always be winners!
